My Book: Book Three – Jonathan’s Wish (An Adventure Novel)

I’ve completed the Jonathan’s Amazing Adventures trilogy and my 17th book with Jonathan’s Amazing Adventures: Book Three – Jonathan’s Wish (An Adventure Novel).  This trilogy is an American tale set in rural Ohio in 1960 about boys and their dogs, dreams and adventures, journeys and quests, and kingdoms and castles on the far side of imagination.  Here’s an excerpt from Book Three – Jonathan’s Wish (An Adventure Novel):

“Book Two in this trilogy of Jonathan’s Amazing Adventures introduced a quest to defeat and slay a dragon of unimaginable size and power, yet much of the danger Jonathan and Sammy find themselves facing in this tale remains unseen – filling them with dread from a threat that could be anywhere and nowhere at the same time.  They find themselves in places and situations never experienced before in their short history of fantastic adventures and quests.  Can they face this new danger and the challenges it presents without succumbing to the paralyzing fear conjured up inside them, while battling through this quandary to reach new lands, peoples and kingdoms?  This could be Jonathan and Sammy’s most challenging adventure to date, for so little is known or understood by them from the beginning to the end of their quest, leaving them little to go by and most everything to fear.  Yet, they can’t accept failure, as there’s too much at stake here to give up – Princess Aydreanna of the Kingdom of Arwyall…

What is the process through which we can transport ourselves to new worlds, new lives, new awareness, new perspectives and new realities?  For most, it is a vicarious experience of daydreams and wishes, of hopeful thoughts and passionate desires – to go somewhere, to be someone, to do something and to experience life as it hasn’t been before.  We hold within us hopes and dreams, and the passion to follow our hearts, but to make those wishes our reality often requires years and decades of dedicated blood, sweat and tears.  So the fact that David Alexander Spencer first discovered the ability to travel between worlds in the here and now, and to actually create and participate in those worlds in real time, makes for a stupendous discovery indeed.  It is also an ability that Jonathan and Sammy have learned through trial, error and enlightenment from Grandpa Spencer’s explanations as well…  Cheers!  Mark”

“Jonathan lowered the note onto his lap, staring wide-eyed across his room in disbelief thinking, A dragon?  Me?  Quickly?  He couldn’t believe what he had just read – but if they were all depending on him, somehow he’d find a way back to Myllanthar – for it was his duty as a Knight of Pengarth…

‘They think I can slay the dragon,’ thought Jonathan as he looked down at Sammy, who just then raised his head to look at him in a knowing way.  Of course, it would be a great adventure to slay a dragon and just the sort of adventure he’d normally be excited to take, but slaying a dragon was a tad bit outside even Jonathan’s comfort zone!  Jonathan pondered the idea for a moment and made his decision – if they needed his help to slay a dragon, then a dragon slayer he’d be!”

I’ve just published my latest book – my 16th: Jonathan’s Amazing Adventures: Book Two – Jonathan’s Return (An Adventure Novel)  This is the second book in the Jonathan’s Amazing Adventures trilogy and I’m currently editing the third book in the series about young Jonathan and his dog Sammy, and their amazing adventures to new worlds together!  Jonathan’s Return is 214 pages long in the paperback version and free to read with Kindle Unlimited.

“The dream seemed real enough to Jonathan, after all, he’d adventured across the entire Land of Myllanthar with Dijia and Sammy, with the help of Gramps and the other Light Bearers in an epic battle of Light against darkness – but did it really happen?  Jonathan refused to believe it had only been a dream, for it was too real to have been a dream.

If it really did happen as Jonathan remembered it, wouldn’t there be a clue as to what happened, like bringing something back with him that couldn’t be refuted?  There was something he’d brought back with him though, something given to him by Gramps – also known as Illandor, Arrydor and Myllanthal – a letter and a prophecy: “In the days, Of the dragon, In a City, Of Sparkling Light, Arrives a boy, To become king, And a dragon to fight…A boy, Is no match, For a dragon, Some say, But wait, For one day, A dragon, He will slay.””

“I’ve always focused on writing the kind of books and stories I’d like to read myself, especially when I was younger and yearned to see and explore the world.  Book One was filled with woods, forests, mountains, tunnels, journeys, quests, kingdoms, knights, bandits, rogue riders, swords, castles, councils, ancient texts, enchantments and an entire cast of peoples and supernatural abilities – what could I add to Book Two that I’d want to read about?  Dragons of course!  Not only would Book Two be about an epic quest to slay a dragon, but I’d set the stage from the very beginning to leave no doubt about what was to take place – a boy and his dog against an ancient dragon of unimaginable size and power!  I hope you enjoy Book Two – Jonathan’s Return (An Adventure Novel) as much as I did writing it – and even now I still have no idea how a young boy and his dog are to slay an ancient dragon emerging from the depths of the dark caves and caverns of Fell Ignar, also known as Kriegareth…  Cheers!  Mark”

I’ve just published my latest book – my 15th: Jonathan’s Amazing Adventures: Book One – Jonathan’s Dream (An Adventure Novel)  This is my first novel and Part One of a trilogy soon to be published.  I’ve been working on this adventure series on and off since starting Jonathan’s Dream in early 1984, and the paperback version is 349 pages long and the Kindle version is free to read on Kindle Unlimited.

“I first began writing Jonathan’s Dream (An Adventure Novel) in early 1984 and have been working on this story, and Jonathan and Sammy’s two follow-on adventures ever since stumbling on the tale by accident when the first two paragraphs revealed themselves to me in my free-form writing exercise through serendipity.  These sentences beckoned me into a world I’d never visited before and there was little I could do but decide to explore it myself.  In essence, not only had Jonathan found himself in an adventure that was greater than he had ever imagined, but I was pulled into a literary adventure I’d never expected to take as well!  Cheers!  Mark”
